Aswan Half Day Tour: Necropolis of the Nobles and St. Simeon Monastery
The Necropolis of the Nobles of Aswan is located on the left bank of the Nile, opposite the city of Aswan, north of the famous botanical garden. This necropolis houses about forty tombs, all dug into the rock, six of which are open to visitors. These burials, dating from the Pharaonic Old Kingdom, around 25th century BCE, are a testament to the grandeur of Aswan at the time. Important monarchs, princes and other dignitaries are buried here.
St. Simeon's Monastery is located on the left bank of the Nile in Aswan, near the Nile on the edge of the desert. This monastery, erected at 6Th century of our era. It is a group of buildings surrounded by a spectacular 8m high stone and brick wall in the shape of a trapezoid, intended to protect the monks from the incursions of the Bedouins. This gives the monastery a fortress-like appearance. It contains several buildings: church, monks' accommodations, etc. where paintings in the Coptic style are preserved. Some monks once lived there, but it was abandoned at 13Th century because of lack of water.
